I find it so insanely frustrating that we figured out how to make a cruise ship that weighs 60,000 tons float on water, send a man to the moon, and Keke Palmer can still somehow make music, yet they can’t make a bra in my size that will enable me to wear backless tops and dresses. Where are our priorities American scientists?! For this reason I am always stuck trying to make outfits work without looking a like an adult film star because of my boobs. So stressful.

I saw this dress on sale at American Apparel and loved the fabric, and the fit, but because it’s backless I was like whelp that’s done. But, I remembered my trick for making other dresses work appropriate: layer a white button down shirt underneath. A long sleeve bodysuit could’ve worked as well.  About this belt. As I have said before, I love a good belt. I saw a girl wearing this belt years ago at a fashion event, and I have been stalking it ever since. Low and behold this past summer it was on sale at BCBG, so I finally got it for 40% off. When it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be. I look for any and every reason to wear this damn belt, because it’s such a fun statement piece.

So let’s review:

  • Never give up on making a look work, until you have exhausted all options.  Get creative.
  • Button down shirts are a staple, especially in the corporate world.  You can make almost any thot dress work appropriate by layering one underneath.
  • In fashion, much like everything else, what is meant to be will be.  If you can’t buy something you like right then and there, it will resurface when it’s supposed to if it’s supposed to.
  • It is nothing short of a miracle that Keke Palmer has a career.  If she can make it, so can you.
