The end of Summer is fast approaching, and I have to say that mine was rather productive, so I’m not too messed up about Fall’s arrival.  I did a little traveling, a little partying, and a little work (starting the podcast which I hope you’ve subscribed to and downloaded). I finally turned 30, which I’ve been looking forward to since I was 25, and it’s been very fulfilling thus far.  I feel more confident even in the uncertainties, and I feel myself loving me more and more everyday.  That’s something I thought I’d never fully be able to do.  Today, I want to pay homage to one garment that got me through this season of galavanting and growth in comfort and style.

Most of my Summer travels involved playing the role of Maid of Honor for my best friend’s upcoming wedding.  As you may or may not know, being a bridesmaid these days is hella expensive.  The price of everything wedding related is so inflated that it trickles down to the bridesmaids as well.  Thanks to reality television giving people a false sense of wealth and extravagance, the expectations for weddings and the surrounding activities are so much higher than they were back in the day.  I said all that to say that I had two days to find looks for the bachelorette trip to the Bahamas, and little to no cash for clothes.  Between the bridal shower, the actual cost of the trip, and spending money for whatever obligatory excursions were to take place, actual clothes were a major afterthought.  Hence, I waited until the last minute to “shop.”

My go to fast fashion retailer, Zara, was having a major sale just before I left.  You should know that a sale at Zara means that you have to sift through a clusterfuck of garments that have been picked over and run through in hopes of finding that one gem you were waiting to go on sale all season.  It honestly looks a lot like the Battle of the Bastards with brighter colors.  I did not find the one piece I was hoping for the most.  Instead, I found this $9 semi-sheer shirt that I intended to wear as a swimsuit cover.  The extra high split was a welcome surprise, because I didn’t even notice it until I got home, and tried it on.  I usually advocate for trying things on in the store and not being a lazy ass, but the lines for the fitting rooms that day looked like they were giving out good credit scores, and free MAC lipsticks chile.  I figured worse case scenario, I’ll use it as a sleep shirt.  It was only $9 for crying out loud.  I ended up wearing it as a full on dress once we got to the resort, and loved it.

I’m really into this whole pairing a dress with jeans or pants look, so I figured I should try it with my trusty boyfriend jeans from Uniqlo.  I also wore it to a Fourth of July party, with biker shorts underneath and silver platform brogues.

Then I wore it to work with black slacks and pumps, and the same accessories to keep it “simple.”
